Overview

Encoder Module

The R-net Encoder Module takes signals from drive motor encoders and processes them for use in the Power Module's drive algorithms, thereby offering a closed loop system that will drive at exactly the required speed over all terrain, gradients and cambers. Such a system also enhances straight line driving, which is particularly useful when using switch or sip-and-puff type Specialty Input Devices in a latched situation. Additionally, an encoder system can also improve the high speed drive performance of front-wheel-drive powerchairs.

If it is detected that an encoder is no longer giving a valid signal - for example, it has become disconnected – then the R-net encoder system will revert back to conventional drive control, so allowing the user to return home. In this instance, it is possible to limit the speed of powerchair, so that it remains safe even without correctly functioning encoders.

The system has been specifically designed to make the initial set-up as easy as possible, with only the very basic information about the motors and encoders needing to be programmed.
